Perhaps the best account of Marshall’s road to university status is found in the book “Marshall University – An Institution Comes of Age: 1837-1980,” by Dr. Charles Hill Moffat.
Moffat, who was chairman emeritus of the Department of History, worked for 20 years to compile the history of the institution, which was published by the Marshall University Alumni Association in 1981.
