Program Overview

Marshall University’s Brad D. Smith Undergraduate School of Business offers a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree in Accounting. The mission of our Accounting bachelor’s program is to provide you the core knowledge and skills necessary to successfully enter the profession of accountancy, business and / or graduate study.

Marshall University is one of only 190 schools worldwide to have achieved accreditation by AACSB International – the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business – for its undergraduate majors and graduate programs in business and accounting.

Our Department of Accounting and Legal Environment has award-winning faculty with diverse backgrounds and teaching interests. Most have worked in the profession and / or perform consulting in an array of accounting and legal services. Most faculty are CPAs or hold other prestigious certifications. Marshall faculty in the accountancy major are committed to teaching and interacting with students. Our approach is to focus on student learning, and we provide a dedicated faculty-student mentoring program.

Graduates from our program have successfully obtained jobs in public accounting firms, industry and governmental agencies. Some of our alumni have gone into teaching-related careers.

Program Highlights
Professional Engagement & Experiential Learning

Our Accounting students actively engage with professionals through events such as Student Night, Visit the Firms, Beta Alpha Psi, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), the Kathy Eddy New Horizons Scholars and internships. Students who fully engage in these activities become members of the professional community while still in college.

Endorsements

Our AACSB-accredited Accounting program has earned a prestigious endorsement from the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), one of the largest and most-respected associations focused exclusively on advancing the management accounting profession.

Certification

Graduates with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from our Lewis College of Business are qualified to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam in West Virginia.
