Program Overview

Finance is the management of money, and since nearly every business needs to make money, Finance is the backbone of any business. With this in mind, Marshall University’s Brad D. Smith Undergraduate School of Business offers a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree in Finance. Located in Huntington, West Virginia, our bachelor’s program in Finance will prepare you to pursue careers or graduate studies in banking, business, investments or corporate finance. You’ll learn cutting-edge technology in the field, and enhance your skills gathering and analyzing financial data.

The Finance bachelor’s degree emphasizes solid practical and theoretical knowledge in the areas of financial risk management, international finance, corporate finance, investments and financial policies and strategies. As a finance major, you will study how companies have performed in the past to predict how they will perform in the future, and learn how to communicate information that will drive strategic changes.

Comprehensive training

Our Finance bachelor’s degree prepares you to plan, manage and analyze the financial and monetary aspects and performance of business enterprises, banking institutions or other organizations. A bachelor’s degree in Finance typically includes instruction in principles of accounting, financial instruments, capital planning, funds acquisition, asset and debt management, budgeting, financial analysis and investments and portfolio management.

Student Organizations

As a Finance major, you have a wide array of student organizations you can choose to join. There are also over ten student organizations that might interest Finance majors such as Beta Alpha Psi and the Student Center for Public Trust.

Certifications and Minors

Undergraduate students majoring in Finance can also partake in the College’s Professionalism Certificate program. The Brad D. Smith Undergraduate School of Business offers minors in areas like Accounting, Economics and Legal Environment that can be obtained along with the bachelor’s degree in Finance.

The 2018 median annual pay for a financial analyst is $80,310 with a projected job growth of 11% between 2016 and 2026, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
