The Integrated Studies, Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree at Marshall University is tailored for individuals who have successfully completed an associate in applied sciences (AAS) degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Unlike traditional 4-year degrees that require students to choose a single major, BAS degrees are distinctive in that they concentrate on cultivating authentic skill sets within one or more employment sectors through integrated studies. Recognizing that workplace challenges are often interdisciplinary in nature, Marshall’s Integrated Studies program promotes an integrated approach to education rather than a focus on a specific major.
Students in the Integrated Studies program engage in a variety of hands-on experiences within diverse communities, industries, systems and frameworks. Through collaboration with faculty mentors, course instructors and community partners, Integrated Studies students will participate in scholarly research, program development, program assessment and other creative and authentic learning experiences.
University College staff provide student support for a successful transition from a community and technical college to Marshall University. Through collaboration with faculty mentors, course instructors and community partners, Integrated Studies students will have the opportunity to participate in scholarly research, program development, program assessment and other creative activities. These learning experiences are integrated into selected pathways of study and experiential placements.
Marshall University’s Integrated Studies degree serves a wide variety of individuals and needs. It is comprehensive enough to satisfy individuals who have little to no workforce experience and robust enough to elevate the knowledge and skills of seasoned members of the workforce.
The practical nature of the Integrated Studies program ensures that upon graduation, students are well-prepared for the workforce and equipped with the knowledge and skills relevant to their chosen pathways.

An earned AAS degree, from a regionally accredited institution, fulfills the Integrated Studies program’s general education requirements at Marshall University. Students may transfer up to 72 hours of required coursework from their AAS degree.
Marshall University’s Integrated Studies degree program is designed to be completed in two years with courses available in-person, hybrid and online.
The BAS in Integrated Studies is designed to allow students to extend their education in personally meaningful ways, by working with an academic advisor to choose the best pathways (e.g., minors, areas of emphasis, concentrations or certificates) for their professional development goals.
Students in Marshall’s Integrated Studies program complete at least 6 hours of field experience (such as an internship, co-op placement or current work experience) related to their professional development pathways.
