Program Overview : The School of Theatre at Marshall University in West Virginia prepares students for a wide range of careers in the entertainment industry — whether they’re interested in performance, design or production. From stage technician to performer, there are a variety of professions where graduates can put to use all the skills they’ve developed, from creativity to collaboration to communication and problem-solving—all in a real-time environment.
Located in Huntington, West Virginia, which borders both Ohio and Kentucky, Marshall offers a variety of bachelor’s degree programs in Theatre. Students may choose from among the following degree programs:
The Theatre Bachelor of Arts in the Arts degree program emphasizes a breadth of content knowledge in theatre, augmented by extensive course work outside the discipline, in Music and Art. The Bachelor of Arts in the Arts program, which requires a minor, is designed to allow students maximum flexibility by pairing one of the arts with another.

Marshall University’s Theatre major programs offer a well-rounded experience that encompasses performance and production training, while providing ample opportunity to tie in studies with other art forms. Students are integrated into the performance program, regularly serving as actors, technicians and designers along with other production opportunities. Other benefits include the following:
Mandatory advisement to ensure students are carefully educated and trained for their individualized goals.
The program also offers opportunities to learn outside the state and even travel abroad with financial support.
Graduates from Marshall University’s Theatre B.A. and Theatre B.F.A. programs are well-prepared for graduate school programs throughout the country and entry level positions in theatre companies, as well as positions in a variety of fields, from teaching to communications and more.
Students in Marshall’s B.A. Theatre program are encouraged to get internships. All theatre majors are urged to take advantage of various audition opportunities and participate in the workshops offered on campus related to auditioning and interviews.
The School of Theatre, which offers a Dance Minor, also has a Dance Company and gives hands-on performance and production experiences through “Theatre ETC,” Marshall’s touring company that puts on performances for youth throughout West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky.
