Welcome to Marshall University!

We enroll more than 14,000 students (10,000 undergraduate and 4,000 graduate and medical and professional students), including over 160 international students from more than 50 countries.

If you have graduated from high school and have not yet enrolled in any college or university course and you wish to earn your undergraduate degree in the United States at Marshall University, you can apply to be an international freshman student at Marshall. International undergraduate applicants who meet all admission requirements may apply for direct admission to MU. International students with limited English proficiency may apply to the ESL/English Language Institute.

After you apply and are admitted to Marshall, please complete the Enrollment Checklist to become an international Marshall freshman student.

Review Admission Requirements and Apply

Applying for admission to Marshall University is a step-by-step process. The Marshall University International Office of Admissions is ready to assist as you complete the undergraduate admission process to apply and be admitted as a Marshall freshman.

Your first step is to review all of our freshman admission requirements. When you’re ready, you can apply by completing our online application.

Check the following application deadlines for international student applications, before you apply and complete your application for admission.

June 15: For students applying to the fall semester, beginning in August
October 15: For students applying to the spring semester, beginning in January
March 15: For students applying to the summer term

Please be sure to review all required documents (below) that you must have sent to Marshall, along with a completed online application. The application fee is currently waived for all degree-seeking international applicants. Required documents include:

Equivalent of U.S. high school diploma (via Official NACES member credential evaluation report*)
ACT/SAT scores (required for some programs and merit-based scholarships)
Proof of English Proficiency (61 TOEFL, 6.0 IELTS, 90 Duolingo)
Proof of MMR vaccination (required only after admission to the university)

After you submit your completed undergraduate application and all required international freshman admission materials, we will review your file and notify you with an admission decision.

Note: To complete your application, please provide an Official NACES Member Credential Evaluation. For a list of current NACES member evaluation companies, please visit www.naces.org/members.

Application Process

  1. Submit the International Application for Undergraduate Admission. Currently, application fees for degree-seeking programs are waived for international applicants.
  2. Request all official, required admission items listed on the application portal to be sent directly to the Office of International Admissions. See Official Credential Policy.
  3. If a representative is assisting with the application process, please submit the Application Cover Sheet.
  4. Once all requested credentials are received, wait for an admission decision. Decision letters will be sent to the student email address provided on the application.

Official Credential Policy

Official credentials are received by the Marshall University Office of International Admissions directly from the issuing examination board, credential evaluation company, or records office. Student copies of transcripts, evaluations, faxed copies of college transcripts, or credentials issued to any party other than Marshall University are not considered official.

NACES member credential evaluation reports must be sent to Marshall directly from the evaluation company to be considered official. We have an online portal with many evaluation companies.

After Admission

Once the application, application fee, and all requested credentials are received, an admission decision will be made within 2-3 business days. Students will receive email notification of the admission decision with any additional steps for full admission and receiving a Form I-20 or DS-2019. To receive an I-20, students must submit all required admission materials, proof of financial support, and a copy of the passport. Additional documents may be requested for students requesting Forms I-20 for dependents or transferring a SEVIS record to Marshall University.
