Advising
Get Advised Early! Students at Marshall must be advised by a faculty or college advisor. Advisors provide academic guidance to assist you in your progress toward graduation. You must meet with your academic advisor for approval of the course schedule and to lift your advising hold. Each student’s Degree Works lists their academic advisor and catalog of record. Susan Midkiff is the CAM advisor for all students. Avoid missing out on required and elective courses. Advising schedules are announced well in advance of registration, and attend SOAD scheduled advising meetings.
Before Meeting an Advisor
Make a list of the classes you wish to take for the upcoming semester. You can view the current course schedule on MyMU, on the Registrar’s webpage, on the schedule for each semester, or by typing “course schedule” in the search bar of any Marshall University webpage!
What to Expect
Advisors guide students in the class selection process and lift holds. Holds may be placed by other campus offices. Your advisor can assist you in removing holds or give you information on how to do so.
After the Meeting
You can register for classes on your registration date listed on the Registrar’s website.
Senior Advising
Once a student reaches 90 credit hours, they must complete a senior evaluation in the Dean’s office.
Minors
All College of Arts and Media Video Production majors must pursue and get a minor in addition to the Video Production major. Pursuing a minor allows you to enhance your major studies and may introduce you to new ideas and give you a professional edge.
