The Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) program is a joint offering of Marshall University and Mountwest Community and Technical College and is designed to help you obtain your degree and earn FAA certifications in airframe and powerplant maintenance (A&P).
This 24-month, hands-on training, degree program provides a well-rounded education in aviation mechanics and systems.
As a graduate of the program, you’ll be eligible to take the FAA exam for A&P licensure. Whether you want to work in small, general aviation or with large commercial jet aircraft, this program will prepare you for a multitude of career options with major airlines, manufacturers, repair stations, structural repair facilities and other organizations in the aviation industry.
Our AMT program offers a robust curriculum that covers all aspects of aviation maintenance, including airframe, powerplant and avionics. Students receive hands-on training using state-of-the-art equipment and technology.
Our instructors are industry veterans with extensive experience in aviation maintenance. They bring real-world insights into the classroom, ensuring students learn the latest industry standards and practices.
The program prepares students for Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification exams. Successful completion of the program ensures that graduates meet the qualifications for obtaining their FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) licenses.
Graduates of our program are in high demand. The aviation industry offers a variety of career paths, including positions with commercial airlines, private aviation companies, aircraft manufacturers and government agencies.
Housed at Huntington Tri-State Airport, the Aviation Maintenance Technology program is designed to allow students to obtain their degrees in addition to earning FAA certifications in airframe and powerplant maintenance (A&P). Students train in modern facilities equipped with the latest tools and aircraft. Our labs and workshops provide a realistic environment for hands-on learning.
In the United States, the aviation industry has a need for 132,000 technicians between 2021 and 2041. There are currently not enough licensed aviation technicians to fill every job in the US. Over the next few years approximately 30% of the existing aviation technology workforce is going to retire. This will create thousands of positions for new technicians.
Companies throughout the region, like Airborne Maintenance and Engineering (Wilmington OH), Thoroughbred Aviation (Lexington and Huntington), Embraer Aircraft in (Nashville), and Pratt and Whitney (Bridgeport) have hundreds of positions open collectively.
The program is working with employers like Delta Airlines, Embraer aircraft, Thoroughbred Aviation, and others to provide students with direct access to industry recruiters while they are in the program. Also, industry representatives will come to the school or give virtual presentations to familiarize students with the industry and their employment options upon graduation.
This program is a joint offering of Marshall and Mountwest Community and Technical College. Students will be accepted and enrolled at both institutions at the same time and both institutions will be listed on your diploma.
The application process starts with MCTC, which will also administer financial aid for the program.
