The Wind Symphony is Marshall University’s premier concert ensemble for wind and percussion students. Conducted by Dr. Phil Valljo, this select ensemble is open to students from throughout the university by audition and provides the opportunity to perform literature from the traditional and contemporary repertory. Performers in this ensemble are held to high performance expectations and, as a result, are rewarded with an excellent musical experience. The Wind Symphony performs numerous concerts during the school year, including the Marshall University Festival Band Weekend, which is sponsored by the band program. In March, 2014, the Wind Symphony performed at the prestigious Percy Grainger Festival in Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center in Chicago, IL. The Wind Symphony was one of four bands in the nation chosen to perform at the event.
