Environmental

At the Center for Environmental, Geotechnical and Applied Sciences (CEGAS), we are dedicated to addressing environmental challenges through practical solutions and actionable strategies. Our work focuses on improving resilience, reducing risks, and enhancing preparedness in the face of natural disasters and other environmental concerns. Additionally, we house the WV Brownfields Assistance Center (BAC) at Marshall University, which promotes economic development and environmental and public health protection through the innovative redevelopment of brownfield properties. The BAC facilitates the redevelopment of brownfield properties by assisting various stakeholders with identifying redevelopment opportunities, providing environmental technical assistance, community engagement, and assistance in obtaining project funding resources.

CEGAS conducts research and provides evaluations on critical infrastructure components in communities affected by natural disasters such as flooding to make them more resilient. Furthermore, we prioritize disaster recovery by conducting comprehensive reviews and assessments to help communities recover quickly from natural disasters while minimizing long-term impacts.

Our work also involves supporting initiatives aimed at improving flood management by analyzing data and developing strategies to reduce flooding risks. We are committed to collaboration, innovation, and delivering tangible results that make a meaningful difference in how communities adapt to and recover from environmental challenges.
