William B. “Bart” Andrews
William B. “Bart” Andrews, a Huntington native, was the past President, General Manager and part-owner of Danco, l.nc., a lumber and building materials company which operated in Huntington between 1961 and 1992. Andrews majored in Business Management and received a B.S. degree from Marshall University in 1958. He completed the ROTC training program and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the US. Army, going through officer’s basic training at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and Ft. Knox, Kentucky.
Andrews held offices and was active in organizations connected with the building business, including the Tri-State Homebuilders Association, the West Virginia Builders Supply Association, and the Tri-State Lumber Dealers Association. Andrews has also held offices in several civic and other organizations over the years, including the Tri-State Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He has also served on the boards of WPBY public television, Old National Bank, Big Green Foundation, Marshall University Foundation, holds a life membership in the Marshall University Alumni Association, and is a member of the Lewis College of Business Sentry Buffalo Society.
James F. and Joan C. Edwards
James F. and Joan C. Edwards are the second couple to be honored by induction into the Hall of Fame, Jim Edwards was a native of Pittsburgh, but made Huntington his home for 60 years until his death in 1991. He was owner and CEO of Namaco Industries which operated National Mattress Co, which was Huntington’s oldest family owned business.
Other business activities included Key Centurion Bancshares, Inc. and The Ogden Corporation. Civic endeavors extended to the Huntington Museum of Art, which has been a major beneficiary of Jim’s philanthropy. An astute businesswoman in her right, his wife, Joan, born in London, England and raised in New Orleans, was Jim’s business partner and continues their joint activities in philanthropy.
Joan was enjoying a singing career in the Big Easy when she met Jim. Some of the many significant contributions to Marshall include the football field, James F. Edwards Field; the Joan C. Edwards Fine Arts Center; the Marshall University Medical School’s James F. Edwards Institute for Cancer Treatment; and the new Jomie Center for Jazz Studies which is currently under construction at the Fine and Performing Arts Center.
Angus E. Peyton
Angus E. Peyton is a partner in the law firm Brown & Peyton in Charleston, WV. He graduated from Princeton University in 1949 with a B.A. in Economics and from the University of Virginia in 1952 with an LLB. degree. He served as Cadet Midshipman with the Merchant Marines in World War II. Peyton was past chair and long standing member of the Board of Advisors for the West Virginia Graduate College. He was a charter member of the West Virginia Round Table and was chairman of the Business Industrial Development Company and WE. Chilton, III Leadership Lecture Series.
Peyton is the director of American Electric Power Company, Inc.; One Valley Bancorp; and One Valley Bank. He is chair and director of Coal Fillers, Inc.; president and director of Chemvalley Properties, Inc.; and Hotel Kanawha Company. Peyton is director and general counsel of Parkline Systems Corporation and Trustee of Walker Shareholders Trust. Peyton was a former director of Daymark, Inc., a half-way house, the United Way of Kanawha Valley, and a former board Member of the Charleston Symphony. He was the recipient of the 1996 YMCA Spirit of the Valley Award, the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies Doctor of Laws award, the Distinguished West Virginian 1984, and the John Marshall Medal for Civic responsibility from Marshall University.
Robert L. Shell, Jr
Robert L. Shell, Jr., Chairman and CEO of Guyan International is a native of Abingdon, Virginia. He is one of the nation’s most aggressive and successful entrepreneurs. Shell attended Marshall University and has been a member of the West Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges, the University of Charleston, and Marshall University educational boards. He is a member of the Huntington Area Chamber of Commerce and the Huntington Boys & Girls Club, He has also served on The Cabell Huntington Hospital Foundation and United Huntington Industries boards and served as chair of the Marshall Artist Series.
Shell is a, member of the Board of Directors of McCorkle Machine, Co. and American Babbitt Bearing-Co, both located in. Huntington, as well as Portec Rail Products with locations, in Huntington, Pittsburgh, Chicago, ‘Montreal, and Wales. Additionally, he serves ion various: bank boards in Florida, California, Louisiana, West Virginia, and Washington, DC.
Shell chairs Hydraulik AG, a joint venture European manufacturer of hydraulic equipment; Standard Leasing Company; HTN, Inc., and PKY, Inc.; Pyramid Marble; and formerly chaired Guyan Machinery Company, and Carolina Hose and Hydraulics.
