The Sustainability and Energy Center

Vision

To bring energy efficiency, environmental, and sustainable education to K-12 Schools in West Virginia through community outreach, which will enable the students to encourage and assist their parents, families, and friends to make better energy choices that will benefit current and future generations.

Goal

To distribute curriculum called the Need Project (The National Energy Education Development), which teachers throughout the United States have written (www.need.org).

Launched

October 2020

Activities

  • Spring 2020: Contact schools to introduce the project and curriculum. During Spring 2020, graduate students contacted schools in 10 out of 55 West Virginia counties.
  • Fall 2021 and Spring 2022: Recruit LCOB students to form a partnership with teachers within a 100-mile radius of campus. The students will assist the teachers during the presentation of the curriculum in the classroom virtually and to mentor the younger students at the K-12 schools.
