Our curriculum is built to prepare students to complete the requirements for licensure as a professional counselor (e.g., LPC) and certification as a school counselor in WV as well as national certification as a National Certified Counselor, Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and National Certified School Counselor through the National Board for Certified Counselors.
Students that complete the school counseling specialty area of emphasis are also eligible to complete the requirements for licensure as an LPC in WV.
Some state licensure boards offer streamlined processes for graduates of CACREP-accredited programs like Marshall’s Counseling Department offers. Many states also offer endorsement or reciprocity options for people already licensed in other states for a designated period. Additionally, once the CounselingCompact is fully operational, it will be easier for people licensed in one state to gain practice privileges in another.
We will work our best to provide flexibility and elective offerings to meet the needs of your professional goals; however, Marshall University cannot guarantee licensure or certification. Students are responsible for consulting with their state licensure governing bodies to evaluate their educational requirements. You can view Marshall University’s licensure disclosures at Marshall University Licensure Disclosures.
