Overview
The Ed.S. is a degree program for experienced, post-masters candidates seeking to enhance and advance their professional knowledge and applications in the area of Curriculum and Instruction (C&I). In some cases, the degree may qualify candidates for horizontal and vertical movement in an existing professional career, for advanced salary classifications within the K-12 education sector, for acquiring new positions within a given specialist discipline or to be concurrently enrolled in the Marshall University Doctoral Program in C&I (Ed.D.). Others may simply pursue the program for personal and professional accomplishment as life-long learners notwithstanding any specific career objectives.

Frequently Asked Questions
The program is designed for those who have completed master’s degrees, but desire to enhance their education and become specialized in the curriculum field. It can also act as a “gateway” to the Marshall University doctoral program in Curriculum and Instruction given that the requirements in these two programs overlap considerably. The majority of candidates include experienced classroom teachers, school, county and state level coordinators or administrators in a K-12 system. Others come from various occupational backgrounds, e.g., health and nursing/hospital personnel, community social and behavioral agencies, business, law and government, and community college and adult technical education settings.
The Ed.S. in Curriculum & Instruction is a virtual distance learning program. Currently, half of the courses include a select number of virtual synchronous meetings along with online work. The remaining courses are fully online without virtual meeting requirements. Courses that do have virtual, online meetings occur on Tuesday evenings between 5:00-8:00 p.m. (Eastern).
