Core Tenets and Practices

Established in 2002, The College Program provides individualized skill building and therapeutic supports to degree seeking students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) through a mentored environment while navigating the college experience at Marshall University.

The program offers basic support services across academic support, social support, career preparation and independent living.

Students participate in weekly skill-building groups, counseling services, and periodic assessment of individualized support.

Summer Transition Program
Summer Program

The College Program for Students with ASD at Marshall University offers a Summer Transition Program dedicated to rising high school seniors, recent high school graduates, and incoming Marshall students who would like to experience college living and academics prior to full-time enrollment.

This program gives students a chance to take a college level course, experience life on a campus, participate in fun social activities with peers, and strengthen their independence. The priority is to experience college life in a safe environment and ease the transition to college.

The Summer Transition Program is held during Marshall’s Summer Session III, which generally falls between mid-July to mid-August. Summer Program supports are provided in three main areas: academics, independent living and social skill development.

Employment Resources

The College Program highly values and emphasizes the career success of its graduates. Students have access to support regarding career planning, resume and cover letter development, internship/job placement, advocacy and disclosure planning, and more through our full-time support program.
