Criminal Justice & Criminology Scholarships

Criminal Justice & Criminology has four need-based scholarships available to returning students that range from $400-2500.

Roger W. Simmons Scholarship for Criminal Justice ($2500)
Mr. Roger Simmons received his BBA in Accounting from Marshall in 1972 and is a retired Special Agent with the U.S. Treasury Department. The recipient must be a WV or metro resident, full time junior or senior Criminal Justice major, will be returning for at least one semester during the next academic year, and who has demonstrated financial need (verified through FAFSA). The scholarship can be used for tuition, fees, books, and/or room and board. Selection will be based on academic achievement, awards, honors, leadership, community service, university activities, and criminal justice activities.

Dora L. Simmons Memorial Scholarship for Criminal Justice ($2500)
Mr. Roger Simmons established a second scholarship in memory of his late mother. Selection requirements are the same as above.

Jeanette Kitto Schumacher Scholarship for Criminal Justice ($2500)
This scholarship is awarded in the name Ms. Jeanette Kitto Schumacher, who is a life-long resident of the State of Michigan. This award was also created by Mr. Roger W. Simmons. Ms. Schumacher graduated from the University of Michigan-Dearborn with a degree in Psychology and a Teaching Certificate. Her value for education, a belief in the principles of Marshall University, and a dedication to the Criminal Justice & Criminology Program at Marshall are the basis for this scholarship. Selection requirements are the same as the above two Simmons’ scholarships.

The Glenn W. Burner Memorial Scholarship (award amount varies each year- typically $400-500)
This scholarship was created in memory of the late Mr. Glenn Burner, a retired law enforcement officer with the ATF and a returning graduate student at Marshall. The recipient must be enrolled at Marshall during the next academic year. Preference will be given to graduate students who have worked, or are currently working, in the criminal justice profession. However, non-professionals as well as undergraduate students will be considered. The scholarship can be used for tuition, fees, books, and/or room and board.

Cyber Forensics & Security Scholarships

In addition to scholarships awarded by the university and College of Science, students in Cyber Forensics & Security may be awarded the following scholarship:

Juanita Carpenter Sammons Scholarship
The recipient(s) shall be a full-time student who is majoring in Cyber Forensics & Security in the College of Science. While maintaining exceptional performance in the normal curriculum, the student’s work should bring attention and credit to Marshall’s growing importance in the field of Cyber Forensics & Security, such as publishing an article and/or participating in coursework-related competition/conference activity. The award shall be renewable up to four years (8 semesters) if the recipient maintains good academic standing.
