Biography
Dr. Young began his career at Marshall University in 2017. He has taught over 15 courses in both undergraduate and graduate programs. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Young also serves as Director of Graduate Studies for the Master of Science in Criminal Justice Program. He is also the co-advisor for the Omega Gamma chapter of the National Criminal Justice Honor Society- Alpha Phi Sigma (APS). As part of this work, he engages students beyond the classroom through service, national conferences, and community building. He resides with his wife, Christina who also works in the criminal justice field.
His research interests focus predominantly on rural criminology and carceral studies with an emphasis on the Appalachian region. He has several scholarly publications in Critical Criminology, Social Justice, The Howard Journal of Criminal Justice, and College Teaching. In addition, his contributions can be found in various edited books such as Research Methods for Rural Criminologists. Dr. Young also works to connect both his research and pedagogy with the community to support the improvement of the Appalachian region.
