Affiliation Advantages

What are the advantages of affiliating a project with the center?
Affiliation with our center includes invitations to CSEGA events, consultation and/or collaboration with local scholars and other affiliates, use of archives and special collections available through the Center, and reasonable use of office support.

Affiliation Eligibility

All of the following will be considered as affiliated with the Center:

Rockefeller Scholar-in-Residence
Who is eligible? A scholar selected by a committee, using the criteria outlined in the Rockefeller Grant proposal and brochure (which can be requested). Ph.D. or equivalent experience is required and selection is competitive. Funding (stipend and expenses) are provided by the Center. Marshall scholars are not eligible.

Rockefeller Scholar Emeritus
Who is eligible? A Rockefeller Scholar-in-Residence who is no longer in residence. No funding is available.

Scholar Affiliate
Who is eligible? A scholar with a Ph.D. or professional equivalent that has submitted a proposal for research activity that is congruent with the aims and goals of the CSEGA and approved by a committee. No funding is available. Marshall scholars are eligible to apply as well as outside scholars.

Student Affiliate
Who is eligible? A student currently enrolled in an undergraduate, master’s or Ph.D. program who has submitted a proposal of research activity that is congruent with the aims and goals of the CSEGA and approved by a committee. No funding is available. Marshall students may apply as well as students from other institutions.

Community Affiliate
Who is eligible? An individual who has been involved in a research project and who submitted a proposal for research activity that is congruent with the aims and goals of CSEGA and approved by a committee. No funding is available.

Application Procedures for Scholar Affiliates

To apply for affiliation with the Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Gender in Appalachia at Marshall University as either a Scholar Affiliate or a Student Affiliate please submit:

  1. A Curriculum Vitae (not to exceed three pages)
  2. Two Letters of Reference
  3. A Research Project Proposal (no more than three pages double-spaced)

-Include a clear statement: How does the research fall under the goals and purposes of the Center?

-Describe the research.

-Include when and how the research will be completed in terms of affiliation (e.g. on campus next summer to utilize x number of interviews).

-Send a hard copy to:

Application Procedures for Community Affiliates

To apply as a Community Affiliate with the Center please submit :

  1. A Curriculum Vitae (no more than 3 pages); or you may substitute a resume or letter that describes activity and how the information has been shared for the curriculum vitae.
  2. Two letters of reference
  3. A research project proposal (no more than 3 pages double-spaced)

– Include a clear statement: How does the research fall under the goals and purposes of the center?

– Describe the research

– Include when and how the research will be completed in terms of affiliation (e.g. on campus next summer to utilize x number of interviews).
