Gameful pedagogy encourages risks, gives students the freedom to fail, and, in so doing models a growth mindset. Gamification encourages rewarding students and structuring courses playfully, encouraging metacognitive thinking as students become more engaged and curious about research and learning. When we teach and assess traditionally, students can often feel disappointed when their learning speed does not necessarily match their peers. Instead, gameful pedagogy and gamification lessen grade anxiety and gives students the opportunity to create their own tailored learning experience.
