Abstract:
Gameful pedagogy encourages risks, gives students the freedom to fail, and, in so doing models a growth mindset. Gamification encourages rewarding students and structuring courses playfully, encouraging metacognitive thinking as students become more engaged and curious about research and learning. Our presentation will not only present what we have learned in our 2022-2023 Faculty Learning Community, it will also interactively give attendees the opportunity to first-hand experience some of the gamification elements that could help engage students. Attendees will gain practical, specific techniques to implement gamified elements in their classes.

Session type: Panel/Interactive Presentation, Hybrid (virtual live stream and face-to-face)

Key words: Pedagogy, student engagement, gameful, gamification
