Marshall University and West Virginia State University have received a $1.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to establish Cyber Security Centers for Critical Infrastructure at both institutions. The funds will be used to address the research needs associated with the cyber security of critical infrastructure in the state and to develop training programs for critical infrastructure operators in cybersecurity for their respective industries. The grant will also allow the universities to develop laboratory facilities and a virtual laboratory for operators to learn how to defend critical infrastructure equipment from cyber attacks. The project is led by Dr. Paulus Wahjudi from Marshall and Dr. Naveed Zaman from West Virginia State, both of whom acknowledged the importance of securing critical infrastructure systems and the significance of the partnership between the two universities.
