Biography
Sean Tuttle joined the Thundering Herd as its Associate AD for Compliance in November 2021.
Tuttle is responsible for overseeing Marshall’s compliance department and Holistic Student-Athlete Program. He is also a member of the department’s Senior Staff and liaison to several areas including the athletics departments N.I.L., SAAC, and community service efforts. He is also liaison to campus Admissions, Registrar, International Student Services, Financial Aid and reports to General Counsel.
Since Tuttle’s arrival at Marshall University, he has implemented N.I.L initiatives with INFLC through an agreement with Teamworks known as the Herd Exchange, a group licensing agreement with the Brandr Group for personalized merchandise, and has been an advisor for the Thunder Trust. He has also helped restructure the international admissions process for incoming international student-athletes and financial aid packages for all scholarship student-athletes.
In addition to his duties at Marshall University, Tuttle is the Sun Belt Conference liaison for the NCAA transfer portal committee. He has presented on NAAC panels the past two years on NCAA Waivers and Transfer Portal best practices.
Prior to joining Marshall, Tuttle was the Associate Director of Compliance at the University of South Carolina since 2018. While in Columbia, he was compliance liaison for the Men’s & Women’s Soccer, Track & Field, and Swimming & Diving programs as well as the SAAC committee. His primary responsibilities were amateurism and eligibility for all incoming student-athletes, outside competition, international student-athlete issues, and official visits. He was also a campus liaison for admissions, international student services, and new student orientation.
He also had stints at Florida Atlantic University (2016-2018) and at the University of South Dakota (2016). Tuttle was hired as the Compliance Coordinator at FAU, and promoted to Assistant Director in 2017. He was responsible for the majority of the day-to-day compliance operations and was a campus liaison for admissions, international student services, and was a member of the certification committee. Tuttle was the Director of Compliance at the University of South Dakota where he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the compliance department for all 17 NCAA Division 1 teams.
After college, Tuttle spent time at the NCAA Division II level working as a compliance assistant at Wheeling University (WV) and Notre Dame College (OH) where he assisted with all day-to-day compliance operations and game day operations.
Tuttle earned a degree in business and organizational communication from University of Akron in 2011 and completed his masters in sport and recreational management at Kent State University in the spring of 2015. While at Kent State, he served as a graduate intern for compliance and academic eligibility.
He is a native of Martins Ferry, Ohio and is married to his wife Kaitlin (Kate) Tuttle who is a graduate of West Liberty University and native of Wheeling, West Virginia. Kate is currently pursuing her M.A. in Literacy Education at Marshall University and is a teacher at St. Joseph Catholic School. They currently reside in Huntington.
