Geography Student Clubs

Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU) is a national honor society in the field of Geography. Marshall’s chapter began in 1955. Gamma Theta Upsilon membership is earned through superior scholarship; it is an honor, and a professional distinction. Initiates must have completed the equivalent of three semesters of college coursework, a minimum of three courses in geography with a 3.3 GPA (on the 4.0 scale) in those courses, and rank in the top 35% of their class (a 3.3 GPA can be used as a substitute for the ranking if the institution does not calculate rankings). Please note that regular members do not have to be currently enrolled, nor must they be geography majors.

The Geography Club (GC) is an informal organization comprised of students with a keen interest in geography. Many members of the GC are also members of Gamma Theta Upsilon, the Geography honorary society, and the two organizations usually meet as one group. GC activities include fund raising, field trips, attending geography conferences, and just having some fun. Students and geography faculty get together to socialize several times each year which is always great fun and the source of many urban legends.

Interested in joining GTU or the Geography Club?

You do not have to be a geography major to join–you just have to have a sense of humor! Students who are interested in joining either Gamma Theta Upsilon and/or the Geography Club should contact Professor Aaron Adams, Faculty Advisor.
