The Interview

I’ve been contacted by the Program Director for an interview.  Now what?

Applicant interviews are scheduled by the Director of the Program via email.  The interview transpires via Microsoft Teams.  Given the Program’s focus on virtual, synchronous seminars, this is an opportunity for the applicant to demonstrate their readiness for engagement with the Program at a high level.  Along these lines, prepare as you would for joining one of our graduate seminars.

Please note: Having a desktop computer or laptop with a secure Internet connection from which you can join Program seminar meetings is required for all students.  Students are not allowed to join seminars on phones.

Before joining any of our seminars — and this interview — you will need to:

  • Download a copy of Microsoft Teams onto your desktop computer or laptop.  You can get a copy on Microsoft’s Teams webpage or, if you are already a Marshall student, by visiting the university’s IT Teams website.
  • Familiarize yourself with how Teams works.  Helpful guidelines are on Marshall’s IT website. Should you have any problems, contact the Program Director by email.
  • Before the interview, make sure you understand how our virtual courses work: see especially the Program’s Seminar Rules of Engagement.
  • Join the meeting from a desktop computer or laptop (not a phone) with video and microphone on, in a private space with no others present.

Once the interview is scheduled you will receive a Microsoft Teams invitation link.  You should be prepared to answer questions about your (1) application essay; (2) relevant background and experience, and (3) your goals for the program.
