For arrival and departure, Haymaker Hall (dormitory) is one of a cluster of four dorms that align Sixth Avenue between 17th and 18th Streets. There is a large surface parking lot across Sixth Avenue (on the south side of Sixth Avenue) that can be used for unloading and loading.
Key buildings for GSE purposes:
- Haymaker Hall (residence)
- Harless Dining Hall (meals)
- Brad D. Smith Center for Business & Innovation (class / work)
- Memorial Student Center (MSC – events + work area)
If you are using a programmable map application (e.g., Google Maps), you can insert Haymaker Hall Sixth Avenue Huntington, WV into the search engine and pinpoint your desired path to the dormitory and check-in. Huntington is mostly laid out as a grid: Avenues run east-west; Streets run north-south; each block is approximately 0.1 miles.
NOTE: Because of road construction along Hal Greer Blvd. / 16th Street, it is recommended that you exit I-64 at Exit 15 (29th Street Exit); however, the following are the four major options to enter Huntington for west-bound travelers:
- from I-64, Exit 15 (29th Street East Exit) – follow that west-bound into Huntington and then consult digital / surface maps for navigating to Sixth Avenue and the dormitory
NOTE: although a bit longer, to most easily navigate Huntington, after using Exit 15- follow US 60 to 3rd Avenue / US 60 West;
- turn left onto 3rd Ave. / US 60 West and follow route from 31st St. to 20th St. – try to get in the far left lane as you near 20th St. so you can make the left-hand (southerly) turn;
- turn left onto 2oth St. (exiting 3rd Ave. / US 60) and follow route from 3rd Ave. to 6th Ave – get in right lane to turn right (westerly) onto 6th Ave.
- turn left onto 6th Ave. (exiting 20th St.) and follow route for about two blocks to large surface parking lot on left (south-side of 6th Ave.)
- park and walk across 6th Ave. to Willis Hall dormitory for check-in
- from I-64, Exit 11 (Hal Greer Blvd. / 16th Street Exit – once exiting, continue north-bound on Hal Greer Blvd. / 16th Street (dual designated) until you reach Sixth Avenue and then turn right (east-bound) until you reach the surface parking lot
- from I-64, Exit 8 (5th Street Exit) – follow 5th Street north-bound and then consult digital / surface maps for navigating to Sixth Avenue and the dormitory
- from WV Route 2 – which terminates at 3rd Avenue and 31st Street and becomes 3rd Avenue and US 60; 3rd Avenue / US 60 is a one-way west-bound route through Huntington and does not become two-way until around 14th Street
