What is the Heart of Appalachia Talent Search (HATS) Program?
The Heart of Appalachia Talent Search Program is a federally funded TRIO Program that provides academic support to 600 middle and high school students in Mason and Wayne Counties who demonstrate the ability to succeed in a post-secondary institution. The HATS Program has a well-established record of helping students achieve academic as well as personal success. Working with students, the Talent Search staff is committed to helping students reach their full potential.
What Services Does the HATS Program Provide?
- Academic, financial, career, or personal counseling including advice on entry or re-entry to secondary or postsecondary programs
- Career exploration and aptitude assessment
- Tutoring connections
- Information on postsecondary education
- Exposure to college campuses
- Information on student financial assistance
- Assistance in completing college admissions and financial aid applications
- Assistance in preparing for college entrance exams
- Mentoring programs
- Special activities for sixth, seventh, and eighth graders
Where is the HATS Office?
The HATS Program is located on the campus of Marshall University. Our office is located in the Gullickson Hall Building in room 210
