There are four distinct minors in History from which students may select. Each requires 15 hours. Other requirements are listed below. You can become a minor by going to your college office and filling out a form.

The History Minor
The general History Minor gives you the broadest course options and will make sense for most students. For this Minor, you can take any classes offered by the department. The only limit is that you can only count two of the five general survey classes (HST 101, 102, 103 and 230,231).
Courses: Up to two of these: HST 101, 102, 103, 230, 231. All other courses offered by the History Department are acceptable.
United States History
If you want to focus on U.S. History, take this minor. Both of the general surveys of United States History (HST 230 and 231) can be used to fulfill the requirements of this minor. All other courses in United States History offered by the History Department are acceptable.

Courses: All United States History classes can count toward this minor. These include: HST 125, 230, 231, 250, 303, 305, 312, 323, 333, 342, 343, 344, 347, 350, 360, 365, 404, 405, 407, 409, 411, 414, 423, 424, 433, 434, 440, 433.
European History
This minor is for those who want to deepen their understanding of European history. Only two of the general surveys of World History (HST 101, 102, 103) can be used to fulfill the requirements of this minor. All courses in European History offered by the History Department are acceptable.

World History
World History includes everything except U.S. and European. Only two of the general surveys of World History (HST 101, 102, 103) can be used to fulfill the requirements of this minor. All courses on the history of Africa, Asia, the Developing World, Latin America, and the Middle East offered by the History Department are acceptable.

INTERDISCIPLINARY MINORS
The History Department has a long tradition of supporting interdisciplinary minors, serving as program directors, offering courses within the minor, or both. These minors are open to everyone, and history students are encouraged to consider adding one.

Latin American Studies
A student may earn a minor in Latin American Studies by completing at least 15 credit hours from the courses listed below and/or any 300- and 400-level Special Topics or Independent Study courses that focus on Latin America and that have been approved by the Director of Latin American Studies. As an interdisciplinary program, students are not confined to taking courses in one department; however, all 15 credit hours can be from a single department. Up to 6 credit hours can be transferred from another accredited institution with the approval of the Director of Latin American Studies. The director may allow up to 12 credit hours to apply if earned at a Latin American university during study abroad. No more than 3 credit hours taken on a credit/no credit basis may count toward the minor. A student must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the courses counting toward the minor.

African and African American Studies (AAAS)
A student may earn a minor in African and African American Studies by completing at least 12 credit hours from the courses listed below and/or any Special Topics or Independent Study courses that have been approved by the Director of AAAS. Because this is an interdisciplinary minor, students must take courses from at least two academic departments. No more than 3 credit hours from courses taken on a credit/no credit basis can count toward the minor. Up to 6 credit hours can be transferred from another accredited institution; such courses must be approved by the Director of AAAS. A student must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the courses counting toward the minor.
