Homecoming Schedule of Events – Marshall University Homecoming

MONDAY, SEPT. 30

5:00 p.m. – Unity Walk & Homecoming Court Announcement
INFO: Students, teams, organizations, clubs, residence halls, faculty, staff, and community members are welcome to join in this unifying walk around campus from the Marshall Rec Center to the Memorial Student Center Plaza to show their Marshall pride! Registered student orgs may compete in a banner competition for cash prizes. Immediately following the walk, the Homecoming court will be announced.

TUESDAY, OCT. 1

10:00 a.m. – Homecoming Royalty Voting Begins
INFO: Current enrolled Marshall students can vote for Homecoming Royalty via Herdlink. Voting will end on Friday, October 4 at noon.

11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. – Green & White Giving Competition
INFO: Homecoming Court nominees and their sponsoring club or organization will be set up on the Memorial Student Center Plaza collecting donations for a selected non-profit. The group that raises the most funds wins!

7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. – Salsa Under the Stars
INFO: Charleston Salsa Club will be teaching the Marshall community salsa dancing in BE5 in the lower level of the Memorial Student Center. For more information, contact Corey Cunningham at cunningham189@marshall.edu.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 2

7:00 pm – Ms. Captivating Pageant
INFO: Black United Students Organization presents the Miss Captivating of Marshall University Scholarship Pageant, which was created for young college women to showcase themselves beyond beauty and further develop leadership skills, confidence and creativity. This event will be held in the Don Morris Room in the Memorial Student Center. Doors open at 6:00, event begins at 7:00 p.m.

THURSDAY, OCT. 3

9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. – Office Decorating Contest Judging
INFO: Offices across campus are encouraged to decorate their space using the Homecoming theme The Marco Games! Members of the MU Alumni Association Board of Directors and other volunteers will spend the day visiting offices to view and judge their decorations. Awards will be presented on Friday, Oct. 4, during the Homecoming Bonfire.

7:00 p.m. – Hoops in Huntington
INFO: Check out the annual Hoops in Huntington event highlighting Herd athletics, including introductions from student-athletes and coaches, fun activities for families and more!

10:00 p.m. – Wild ‘N Owt
INFO: Enjoy an evening of laughs with our improvisational comedy game in Marco’s in the lower level of the Memorial Student Center. For more information, contact Corey Cunningham at cunningham189@marshall.edu.

FRIDAY, OCT. 4

10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. – WMUL-FM Car Bash
INFO: A university favorite! Join us for this annual as participants pay $1 to bash the car, painted in Appalachian State’s colors, with a sledgehammer for two minutes. Sledgehammer, gloves and goggles will be provided.

12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. – CAB Presents: Heading Home
INFO: Join Campus Activities Board for sliders, chips, and more on the Memorial Student Center Plaza.

2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. – Parent and Family Weekend Check-In
INFO: Stop by the Memorial Student Center to check-in for a full weekend of family fun. Receive your t-shirt, bag, tickets for events throughout the weekend, and more.

5:00 p.m. – Women’s Volleyball vs. Georgia Southern

6:00 p.m. – Softball vs. University of Charleston

6:00 p.m. – Homecoming Parade
INFO: Floats, marching bands, and everything you love about parades fills the air on a Friday night! The parade begins on 4th Avenue in Huntington and ends at Harless Field. If you can’t make it, tune in on social media @MarshallU for a broadcast of the parade.

7:00 p.m. – Pep Rally & Bonfire
INFO: Marshall’s iconic Homecoming tradition! Alumni, students and community members are invited to Harless Field to enjoy a bonfire with music, food trucks and more! Homecoming parade float and office decorating competition winners will be announced. There will also be special appearances by the Marching Thunder, cheerleaders, Marshall coaches and players!

7:15 p.m. – Men’s Soccer vs. James Madison

7:30 p.m. – Black Alumni Hall of Fame
INFO: Marshall University Black Alumni is pleased to announce the annual Black Alumni Hall of Fame in the Brad D. Smith Foundation Hall. This event will honor the achievements of ten of the university’s most esteemed graduates. Tickets are $65 per person or $600 for a sponsored table.

8:00 – 10:00 p.m. – Herd Family Feud
INFO: Join us in the Joan C. Edwards Playhouse on 5th Ave for a game of Family Feud with a Kelly Green twist! Families have chances to win cash, Build-A-Bisons, and more. *This is a ticketed event for Parent & Family Weekend. Students can enter with a valid student I.D.

10:00 – 12:00 a.m. – Family Fun Night
INFO: Join us in Shawkey Dining Room (second level of the Memorial Student Center) for board games, video games, and much more! *This is a ticketed event for Parent & Family Weekend. Students can enter with a valid student I.D. Cash bar will be available.

10:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m. – Silent Disco

11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. – Build-A-Bison
INFO: If you’ve ever wanted your own Build-A-Bison, now’s your chance! Join us in the lobby of the Memorial Student Center to build your very own stuffed Marco. Bison are $20 each, cash only. (While supplies last.)

12:30 p.m. – Marshall Alumni Tailgate
INFO: The highlight of Homecoming week! ALL are invited to this wonderful tailgating experience, hosted by the Marshall University Alumni Association and Marshall University Black Alumni! Located in the Joan C. Edwards Stadium East Lot (beside the Chris Cline Indoor Athletic Facility), come enjoy great food, hang with friends, play tailgating games, enjoy live music and performances by the Marching Thunder, Marshall University cheerleaders, and appearances by special guests including coaches and players. Don’t miss the famous Marshall Alumni & Family Tailgate in its new location prior to the game!

INFO: All attendees of Parent & Family Weekend are invited to join in the pre-game festivities with food and fun in the John Marshall Dining Room on the 2nd floor of the Memorial Student Center. There will be a photo-op so make sure to wear your green! *This is a ticketed event for Parent & Family Weekend. Students can enter with a valid student I.D.

1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. – Intercultural Affairs Family Gathering
INFO: Join the Intercultural Affairs crew three hours before kickoff on the East Hall Lawn for food and fun!

3:30 p.m. – Marshall vs. App State
INFO: The Thundering Herd battles Appalachian State University in the annual Homecoming game at Joan C. Edwards Stadium!

8:00 p.m. – Greek Stroll-Off Competition
INFO: Greek life at Marshall will compete in the Greek Stroll-Off Competition, which showcases a team’s agility, creativity and understanding of rhythm and dance as they show precision, synchronization, originality and showmanship.
