Purpose
The Marshall University Information Technology (IT) Council is human-centered, innovative, and responsive to the needs of the University community. Additionally, the IT Council fosters collaboration between MU Information Technology and the University community, encourages innovation and creativity using design thinking principles, and increases the likelihood of successful IT outcomes.
Guiding Principles
The members of the IT Council will assist with MU Information Technology by:
- Empathizing with faculty, staff, and students in the Marshall University community and seeking to gain a deep understanding of the needs, challenges, and aspirations to develop a clear understanding of perspectives, pain points, and desired outcomes using technology tools and services.
- Identifying specific problems or opportunities that should be addressed, enhancing collaboration by being a champion of technology tools and services, and addressing gaps in IT policy and strategy.
- Ideating innovative approaches and promoting a solutions-oriented culture of technology alignment with institutional goals and needs.
- Aligning funding with the University budget and capital planning processes.
- Promoting agility and innovation by supporting new ideas, providing resources, and making recommendations for pilot or trial opportunities within the respective groups represented on IT Council.
- Communicating perspectives of the university community stakeholders, and champion information technology initiatives to foster a partnership among the university community with MU Information Technology.
- Evaluating the progress of IT initiatives and providing input to prioritization and policy development.
- Evolving the campus community with a continued emphasis on operational efficiency, digital transformation, and shared governance principles
Meetings

The IT Council is an open forum for any faculty, staff, or students who wish to participate. To ensure shared governance and representation across the University, the following areas are represented on the council:
