Marshall Mobile ID in Apple Wallet and Google Pay

Before Getting Started On Mobile Devices and Requirements

In order to qualify for the Marshall Mobile ID, the Marshall University ID Office requires that all students and employees must have an picture within our systems on file. Marshall University is now taking future photo submissions and preparing the Marshall Mobile ID over the phone. Below are steps listed for new/incoming students as well as current students. Please find and follow the instructions for your current status. Upon following these guidelines and instructions there are also videos below to help with the process of setting up your Marshall Mobile ID. If you are a new employee or current employee and need to talk about the mobile ID please call the Marshall University Office Directly at, +1 304-696-6843 or email us at campusid@marshall.edu.

For new incoming students:

  1.  In order for the ID Office to take photo submissions a student must be registered for the current or upcoming term.
  2. After class registration has been completed, Marshall University’s ID Office will send an email out to students through their Marshall University email. The email that is sent will ask students to submit two types of photo images for the Marshall University ID Offices approval.
  3. Marshall University’s ID Office’s required two photo types are a photo of the student themselves and a photo of a federal ID (a driver’s license or a passport.) Please read step 4 and 5 thoroughly as these steps cover the guidelines needed for the photo submissions and their future approval.
  4. All photo submissions made to the Marshall University ID Office through the remote photo submission email must follow these guidelines.
    • Should be cropped to a head shot only.
    • Should be taken against a plain, light background.
    • Must be a color photo.
    • Photo must not use any filters or artificial modifications.
    • Must not include sunglasses or hats.
    • Must be positioned directly facing the camera.
    • Eyes should be open and looking at the camera.
  5. All federal ID photo submissions made to the Marshall University ID Office through the remote photo submission must follow these guidelines.
    • Must be a valid drivers license or passport.
    • Must have all information visible.
    • Federal forms of ID for photo verification must have a valid date and not be expired.
  6. Marshall University’s ID Office will approve all photo submissions made through our secure software that sends the emails out.
  7. After approval students should receive and email telling them their photo was approved or denied.
  8. If approval was successful students should call the ID Office at, +1 304-696-6843 or email us at campusid@marshall.edu so that the office can manually enroll students for the Marshall Mobile ID.

For current students:

  1. Current students need to be registered for classes for the current or upcoming semester.

  3. If you are a current student and would like to update your Marshall ID photo please contact our office with the information listed in step two.
  4. If you are a current student and you have or have had the Marshall Mobile ID in the past and are having errors or have any questions about adding the Marshall Mobile ID back please contact our office with the information listed in step two.
  5. For all other inquiries regarding your Marshall Mobile ID or your student ID please contact our office with the information listed in step two.

 

How to submit a photo for the Marshall Mobile ID Video Tutorial:

 

Marshall Mobile ID Card is available to all currently enrolled students and current employees.  Now you will be able to use your iPhone, Apple Watch, or Android device to conveniently access your Campus ID Card accounts and services by simply holding your mobile devices near the same reader where you use your physical card. For Apple devices you may only add your ID to one iPhone and one Apple Watch through your Apple Wallet. For Android devices, you may only add one ID to Android phone through Google Pay.

Throughout this document, card will refer to a virtual Campus ID Card (Marshall Mobile ID = MMID) for your iPhone, Apple Watch, or Android device.

Getting Started with an iPhone and Apple Watch

Getting Started an Android Device

Adding Your Marshall Mobile ID to Apple Wallet on an iPhone

  1. Open eAccounts Mobile App on your iPhone.
  2. Swipe over to the left until you are presented with a “Get Started” button.
  3. Tap “Get Started”
  4. Search for Marshall University in the apps search bar or scroll until you find Marshall University.
  5. Tap Marshall University, you may need to tap twice.
  6. Please sign in with your full MUNet account email, i.e. (username@marshall.edu)
  7. You should be prompted to enter your MUNet Password.
  8. Approve the MFA request.
  9. You can now view your account balances and meal plans.
  10. Tap “Add to Apple Wallet” and select the device if asked.
    • If you have both an iPhone and Apple Watch you will need to add the ID to the iPhone before you add it to your Apple Watch.
  11. On the “Add Card” screen tap “Next” in the upper right corner.
  12. Tap “Agree” on the lower right corner on the Terms and Conditions page.
  13. Wait until the notification at the top of the screen verifies your card has been added to the Wallet and tap “Done” in the upper right corner.
    • After you have added a device, when you go back to the account and meal plan page, the picture icon in the upper right corner now displays your Campus ID Card photo.
  14. Verify your card is in your Apple Wallet:
    • iPhone: To view in your Apple Wallet, tap the drop-down arrow and then tap “View in Wallet”.
    • Apple Watch: Open Watch app on your iPhone -> Select Wallet & Apple Pay -> Select Campus ID Card.
    • Your card in Apple Wallet will default to Express Mode for both iPhone and Watch allowing you to use your card at a reader without a pass code, Touch ID or Face ID.
    • Your card will include your photo, Marshall classification of Student, Faculty or Staff, and any ID Card account balances.
  1. Tapping (…) in the upper right corner of the Marshall Mobile ID in Apple Wallet will display additional information related to your MMID, including any additional account balances not displayed on the front.

Adding your Marshall Mobile ID to an Apple Watch

  1. Repeat steps 1-5 for login to eAccounts Mobile App.
  2. Ensure your second device is signed into the same iCloud account as the first device. From the MMID screen, tap “Add to Apple Wallet”.
  3. On the “Add Card to Wallet” screen tap “Next” in the upper right corner.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete adding your card.

Removing Your Marshall Mobile ID from an Apple Wallet on an iPhone or Apple Watch:

  1. From iPhone:
    1. Navigate to the Wallet app.
    2. Tap (…) in the upper right corner of your MMID.
    3. Scroll to the bottom and select Remove Card.
    4. Eligible cardholders who have not exceeded their device limit can add their MMID back at any time.
  2. From Apple Watch:
    1. Navigate to the Watch app on your iPhone.
    2. Scroll down and select Wallet & Apple Pay.
    3. Tap on MMID.
    4. Scroll to the bottom and select Remove Card.
    5. Eligible cardholders who have not exceeded their device limit can add their MMID back at any time.

Adding your Marshall Mobile ID to an Android smart phone

  1. Make sure your Android device supports NFC:
    1. Note: This setting’s location can vary by device.
    2. Navigate to the settings of your Android device.
    3. In the search bar type “NFC.”
    4. You may need to tap the NFC option if it is available and turn the setting on if it is turned off.
    5. You can also generally find the NFC setting in Connection Settings or Connected Devices.
    6. If you do not see the NFC setting it is possible your device does not support NFC. If this is the case please contact the ID Office.
  2. Download and set up Google Pay:
    1. If your device has Google Pay you will need to open it up at least once and use your primary Gmail account.
    2. If your device does not have Google Pay please follow these steps below.
    3. Navigate to the Google Play Store.
    4. Search Google Pay in the Google Play Store search bar.
    5. Download Google Pay.
    6. When it is finished installing please open Google Pay and run through its setup process.
  3. Downloading and setting up eAccounts:
    1. Navigate to the Google Play Store.
    2. Search for eAccounts in the Google Play search bar.
    3. eAccounts will be an app with a red box and white arrows in the center.
    4. Tap download to get eAccounts.
  4. Adding your Marshall Mobile ID through eAccounts to Google Pay:
    1. You need to have completed all the steps above. If you encounter any errors please contact the ID Office.
    2. Navigate to the eAccounts app that you installed following the instructions above.
    3. Open the app and swipe left until you are presented with a “Get Started” button.
    4. Tap the get started button
    5. Search Marshall in the search bar of the app or scroll until you find Marshall University.
    6. Tap Marshall University, and you may need to tap it again.
    7. Please sign in with your full MUNet account email, i.e. (username@marshall.edu)
    8. You should be prompted to enter your MUNet Password.
    9. Approve the MFA request.
    10. eAccounts should prompt you to add your ID to Google Pay.
    11. If you are not prompted with this message, tap “Add to Gpay” in the black box.
    12. Please allow Google Pay to run through the setup process.
    13. If the card is added properly you should see a preview of the of the card.
    14. It can take up 2 or 3 minutes for the card to finish adding properly. Please allow time for Google Pay to finish the entire process.
    15. When the card is finished adding your image should be within the student ID card.
  5. Verify your ID was added properly:
    1. To view your ID in Google Pay, open the Google Pay app.
    2. Navigate to Passes tab on the menu below or tap the ID black box on the home menu labeled “Campus ID.”
    3. From the ID menu, you should be able to manage the card in Transact eAccounts, view your ID photo, see your ID number and call or email support for any questions.

Removing your Marshall Mobile ID from your Android device:

  1. Navigate to the eAccounts app.
  2. Sign into the eAccounts app again.
  3. Once signed in tap the option that says “More Information.”
  4. Then tap “Remove ID from Google Pay.”
  5. Follow the rest of the procedures.
  6. Open Google Pay to make sure the ID was removed properly.

  • The setting to find your Android device model can vary based on your current version of Android as well as the Android device itself.
From your device tap: Settings -> General -> Software Update.

  • If the iOS version listed is not the most current release, you will need to update.
  • To update, from your device tap: Download-> Install -> Passcode may be required. Your device will display the estimated download time.
From your device tap: Settings -> System -> System Update.

  • The setting to update your device can vary by your device as well as its current software version of Android
  • Updating the device can take some time, however, some Android devices may only receive 2 or 3 major Android device software upgrades.
The Series # for your Apple Watch can be found on the back of the Watch.

  • Note: The Series 0 Watch is not eligible for this program.

At the moment, Android smart watches are not supported.
Yes, you will need to install the updated version of eAccounts.
From your device tap: App Store -> Search and Select “eAccounts”.
From your device tap: Google Play Store -> Search and Select “eAccounts” -> tap “Update”
You can add one iPhone and one Apple Watch.
You can only add one Android device.
During our initial mobile launch, if you choose to provision a iPhone, Apple Watch, or Android device you can retain and continue to use your ID Card, but in the near future the card will be deactivated and only the mobile device will function as your ID.

  • Contact the Campus Card Office at 304-696-6843 to notify us to deactivate the card in the Apple Wallet for that device. Be sure to specify whether the physical card, watch and/or phone version of card should be deactivated.
  • To reactivate a found device that was suspended under above you will need to go to the Campus ID Card Office during regular business hours as identity verification is required.

  • Contact the Campus Card Office at 304-696-6843 to notify us to deactivate the card in Google Pay for that device. Be sure to specify whether the physical card or phone version of the card should be deactivated.
  • To reactivate a found device that was suspended under above you will need to go to the Campus ID Card Office during regular business hours as identity verification is required.
  • If your account balances are $0, they will not display until funds are added.
  • If you have available funds that are not displaying, please contact the Campus ID Card Office at 304-696-6843 or email campusid@marshall.edu. Business hours are Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm.
When Express Mode is on, double clicking the home button on an iPhone 8 and earlier and double clicking the side button on an iPhone X and later will not display your Campus ID Card in your stack of passes for security reasons.
Android devices require you to wake the device up to allow portions of the hardware to become active. Google does not allow devices that are asleep to be in use for security purposes. If your devices has an Always On Display mode you simply need to wake the phone by tapping the power button once or double tap the screen. The phone can still remain locked.

If you have upgraded an iPhone:

  • If you have upgraded your iPhone please be sure that you use the same Apple ID that was used on your original iPhone.
  • In some cases changing your Apple ID for the new Apple device can cause errors when adding the MMID back. If this happens please contact the Campus Card Office at 304-696-6843.
  • You will need to install eAccounts to the new device and follow the instructions listed above to add the ID to the new Apple device.
  • If you encounter any errors please contact the Campus Card Office at 304-696-6843.

If you have upgraded to a new Apple Watch:

  • If you have upgraded your Apple Watch, please make sure the old watch as been removed from your iPhone. Instructions can be found here.
  • If you encounter any errors please contact the Campus Card Office at 304-696-6843.

If you have upgraded an Android smartphone:

  • Please ensure the new device supports NFC.
  • Please ensure the new device has the Google Pay app installed properly.
  • Please download the eAccounts app again and follow the instructions above to add the MMID to the new device.
  • eAccounts may ask you to remove the old ID from the old phone. In this case follow the procedure the app provides.
  • In some cases eAccounts and Google Pay may think the ID exist on the new phone but doesn’t work. For this you will need to clear the app storage and app cache of both Google Pay and the eAccounts app. Instructions on clearing app cache and app storage can be found here.
  • Resetting the application storage and caches will reset the apps and any data associated with them.
