The Japanese Language Program, a part of the Department of Modern Languages, offers a major in Japanese Language and two minors: Japanese Language and Japanese Studies.
The Japanese Language Major
- Consists of ten (10) courses for a total of thirty (30) credit hours
- Emphasizes fluency in the language
- Begins with 102
- Includes twenty-one (21) hours above 204
- Includes nine (9) hours at the 400-level (including the 490 capstone course)
- Counts two courses taught in English towards the major
The Japanese Language Minor
- Consists of five courses for a total of fifteen (15) credit hours
- Emphasizes competency in the language
- Begins with 102
- Counts one course taught in English towards the minor
The Japanese Studies Minor
- Consists of five courses for a total of fifteen (15) credit hours
- Emphasizes competency in the country and its culture
- Can count 101 or 102 language course towards the minor
- Six (6) hours must be at the 300- or 400- level.
