Mentor. Inspirer. Friend. Through his multi-decade SOJMC career, Professor Hollis filled the trophy case: West Virginia Professor of the Year; Marshall’s Outstanding Faculty Award, Outstanding Teacher Award, and Pickens-Queen Teacher Award; and three regional Edward R. Murrow Awards. Yet, his legacy was aptly summed up by his students: “You can measure Dan’s value by his students, who shined professionally and in life because he energetically, passionately, and sincerely invested not only in our careers, but in our lives.”
