Student Media

Marshall University offers students an exceptional opportunity to gain real-world experience through its vibrant student media outlets. Whether contributing to The Parthenon, the university’s student newspaper, or honing skills at WMUL-FM, the campus radio station, students immerse themselves in professional environments from day one. Aspiring broadcasters and content creators can also work with JMC TV, home to programs like the news broadcast MU Report and various other TV productions. These hands-on experiences not only enhance reporting, editing, broadcasting, and audio production skills but also build a strong foundation for successful careers in journalism and mass communications.

The Parthenon

The Parthenon is Marshall University’s student-run newspaper, offering comprehensive coverage of campus news, sports, arts, and student life. Managed and produced by students, it serves as a platform for aspiring journalists to gain hands-on experience in reporting, editing, and publishing. The publication is available in print on Wednesdays, with daily online updates during the regular semester.

WMUL-FM

WMUL-FM 88.1, known as “The Cutting Edge,” is Marshall University’s student-run radio station, broadcasting since 1961. It offers a diverse array of programming, including news, sports, and music, providing hands-on experience for students in broadcasting and journalism. The station has earned numerous national and regional awards, reflecting its commitment to excellence in media production.

JMC TV

JMC TV is the official YouTube channel showcasing video productions by students from the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism & Mass Communications at Marshall University. The channel features a variety of student-created content, including news programs like “Newscenter 88 Weekend Recap” and “MU Report,” as well as special segments such as “HerdFlix” and “Classroom Concerts.” These productions highlight the students’ skills in journalism and mass communications, offering viewers a glimpse into their academic projects and creative endeavors.

Collective 37

Collective37 is a student-run, student-developed, communications agency at Marshall University. Students get serious real-world experience working with clients on and off campus. All Advertising and PR majors are invited to get involved.
