On February 14, 2024, The Truist Center for Leadership held a board meeting at the newly established Brad D. Smith Center for Business and Innovation. We were pleased to welcome some of our board members, Dr. Bill W Dingus who serves as the Executive Director of the Lawrence Economic Development Corporation, Chuck Oldaker who is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Service Wire Co., Dr. Darshana T. Shah who is a professor of pathology and the associate dean for faculty advancement at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, and Lisa Chamberlin Stump who is the Chief Strategy Officer for the Marshall Health Network. We would also like to welcome Joshua Scott who is the Market/President/Senior Vice President for the Truist Bank and Adriana Collelo who is the student associate for the Truist Center. To begin the meeting, the Director for the Truist Center, Dr. Monisha Gupta led the presentation and discussion of the past events that the Center has hosted for students such as the Money Smart and Financial Wellness workshop held in 2022 and 2023, The Emerging Leaders Certification Program in 2023, as well as the Business Leadership Symposium in 2023 and upcoming this spring. The Center also hosted a panel discussion on February 7, 2024, about the future of business concerning Artificial Intelligence. The event was facilitated by Adriana Collelo and Mackenzie Rider who is an MBA student here at Marshall. With the Dean present as well as over 100 students, we are hoping to hold the AI panel again in the coming months with more faculty present. To conclude the meeting, the board members present offered new ideas for different events and workshops focusing on leadership for our business students.
