The BB&T Center for Leadership and the John F. Rahal Center for Strategic Engagement partnered with Chase Bank and Goodwill Industries to host the Money Smart Financial Workshop on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. The hour-long workshop featured guest speaker Chase Vice President & Community Manager Diana Whitlock, who presented information on financial literacy and how students can be financially secure. The presentation also included information on investing for retirement, building credit, and ways to save money. Goodwill Industries Director of Consumer Counseling Services Angela Stanton talked about the free programs offered by Goodwill to help individuals become financially literate. The event was attended by 25 students, who received free lunches during the workshop. After the presentation, students received a Certificate of Completion, followed by a question-and-answer session, with many students engaged in the conversation. The Money Smart workshop is well suited for college students in that the course reviews the basics of earning and saving money, specifically for people who are just entering the workforce. Feedback from the event proved to be extremely positive, with one student attendee commenting “The Money Smart Workshop was useful because it truly applies to college students and provides effective strategies for managing our finances.”
