Challenged as a reading assignment at Hanahan Middle School in Berkeley County (SC) because of blatant, explicit language using street terms for sex, talk of worms eating body parts, and blasphemy.

Banned for content about drug use and sexual behavior.

Retained as optional reading for 8th graders at the Rice Ave. Middle School in Girard (PA) despite a grandmother finding the book offensive.
