About

They say “if you don’t use it, you lose it,” and it’s true for our brains as much as our brawn. If you have been looking for a way to keep your mind active while interacting with engaging speakers, compelling instructors, and a cohort of like-minded learners on a regular basis, the Lifelong Learning Program at Marshall University is for you!

Launched in April 2018, the LLP was a dream of many members of the Huntington community who had experienced similar programs at other institutions or knew of them through friends.

The LLP has grown quickly and offers members a wide variety of learning opportunities. The program is comprised of adults, mostly 55 and older, who have a quest for knowledge. The members are mature learners in the community who wish to engage in stimulating and fun discussions and activities, and all share a common interest in continuing learning experiences and intellectual stimulation.

Join us and experience the unique benefits the Lifelong Learning Program at Marshall University has to offer! From guest speakers and short-term courses to day trips and access to numerous Marshall University resources, LLP membership gives you a multitude of benefits.

Freddie Tanner, LLP Founding Member
“I’ve always been a lifelong learner, but didn’t want to deal with writing papers, tuition, expensive textbooks, campus parking, etc. With lots of work, our program is providing challenges to our ‘older brains.’ Statistics have proven that a challenged brain is a healthier brain. The LLP has revitalized me and my husband. Interaction with people from all walks of life expands your horizons. Hope I never graduate!”
Rev. Dr. William H. Wilson (Bill), LLP Member
“When I retired in 2013 I had created a “list” of involvements that I wanted to do, experience, and to be able to contribute my skills and interests. I became more involved in the Huntington area especially activities related to Marshall. In 2018 when the Marshall Lifelong Learning began I joined! And, the last six years have been so exciting to experience talks, events, tours, and new learnings. To hear, learn, and experience so much that I did not know. Oh, the variety of learnings with an excellent balance of topics, places, skills, and interests! Truly, lifelong learning!”

“Marshall University’s LLP, begun in 2018, is a fantastic resource available to Huntington area adults who never want to stop learning, but don’t have the time or desire to be part of a full semester class . This non-credit program offers wonderfully varied topics, including but not limited to, art, computers, history, music and weather so that there is always something for everyone.”
