The Minority Health Institute, established over two decades ago by Dr. Anthony T. Woart, is committed to advancing health equity and improving the well-being of minority and underserved populations in Appalachia. Dr. Woart’s mission and vision for the Institute encompass fostering inclusive healthcare practices, conducting impactful research, and implementing targeted health education initiatives. Our mission is to eradicate health disparities through community engagement, innovative interventions, and collaborative partnerships, while our vision is to create a future where all individuals have equitable access to high-quality healthcare and experience optimal health outcomes. The team remains dedicated to advocating for the significance of addressing health disparities across West Virginia, persisting in our efforts through health promotion initiatives and ongoing research endeavors.
“Promoting minority health will reduce the burdens of health disparities not only among the minority populations of West Virginians but also among the state’s underserved population.” -Woart
“Health is the greatest gift that can be offered to each individual,” Walker Dean said. It is very important that we continue to raise awareness of bridging the gap of health disparities that affect minorities and the underserved population in the state of West Virginia. -Walker Dean
