Marshall University’s School of Music and Department of Jazz Studies’ Jazz-MU-Tazz is in full swing. Now in its 19th year, the week-long jazz camp serves as an enrichment program for 7th-12th graders, who will give two concerts as part of the program.

Yuhao Zhou, in collaboration with Marshall University piano faculty member Dr. Henning Vauth, will give his senior recital in Marshall’s Smith Recital Hall at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 29. The program will include works by Niccolò Paganini, Dmitri Shostakovich, Ludwig van Beethoven and Henryk Wieniawski.

Marshall University’s Choral Union will be joined by the area’s longest-running brass quintet, Lincoln Brass, for “Joy and Woe,” a free concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 30, in Smith Recital Hall on the university’s Huntington campus. The performance will “explore the extremes of human emotions through music,” according to Deborah Bradley, director of the MU Choral Union.

The Marshall University Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Elizabeth Reed Smith, will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, in Smith Recital Hall. A Dunlow, West Virginia, native, Marshall graduate, and in-demand soprano, Marlayna Maynard will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 7, at Johnson Memorial Methodist Church with School of Music faculty members Dr. Henning Vauth, piano; Dr. Stephen Lawson, horn; and Alexander Lee, tenor.

Following a performance in New York City that garnered a standing ovation, Marshall University’s Chamber Choir has returned home to present the same program at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 2, in Smith Recital Hall on the Huntington campus.
