Specific application dates change from year to year, so check with our office or the scholarship’s website for the deadline.

Key Facts:

  • Available to all students who have at least a 2.5 GPA
  • Opportunity to study at another school in the U.S. while continuing to pay tuition to Marshall University

Key Facts:

  • Available to sophomores and juniors who have at least a 3.0 GPA, but most winners average ~3.9
  • Must be majoring in natural science, mathematics, or engineering
  • Committed to a research career in the above fields
  • Funds eligible expenses (such as tuition) up to $7,500 for up to two years

  • Available to undergraduates from any major who are receiving the Pell Grant at the time of application
  • Pays up to $5,000 towards study abroad
  • Extra benefit of ~$3,000 for students studying a “critical need” language (as defined on their website)
  • Offers spring, summer, and fall semester options

Key Facts:

  • Available to undergraduates and graduate students
  • Funds study abroad in countries other than Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand
  • Study abroad lengths vary from summer, a semester, or a full year
  • Must be pursuing a major that is related to U.S. national security and have plans to work in the federal government

  • Offers the opportunity to intensively study one of 13 critical languages (as defined on their website) in a foreign country
  • Involves intensive language study and cultural immersion
  • Travel period runs from June-August

  • Asks students to respond to an prompt about an ethical issue
  • Awards first, second, third, and honorable mention prizes
  • Essay length is approximately 3,000-4,000 words

  • Fully funds a graduate research degree at Cambridge University
  • Sponsored by Bill Gates
  • Involves applying to Cambridge as part of the application process
  • Average winner GPA is 3.7 to 4.0

Key Facts:

  • Apply your junior year
  • Available for students interested in public service, government, education, or the non-profit sector
  • Funds $30,000 towards a graduate degree
  • Must work in a public service field for three years after receiving the Truman-funded graduate degree
  • Must be nominated by Marshall University, so see our office if you are interested

Key Facts:

  • Apply early in your senior year
  • Must be interested in getting a PhD in applied physical, biological, or engineering sciences
  • Funds both graduate tuition and a personal stipend
  • Winners must make a commitment to use their skills to help the U.S. in times of national emergency

  • Must be planning to become a teacher in U.S. history, government, or social studies at the 7-12 level
  • Winners make a commitment to teach in the above fields one year for each year of support they receive
  • Funds graduate study in the above fields, including tuition, fees, and books

  • Open to students with a 3.7 GPA or higher
  • Apply early in your senior year
  • Funds 1-2 years of study in the U.K.
  • Open to any major, but must be a good ambassador for both the U.S. and the U.K.

Key Facts:

  • One of the most prestigious scholarships in the country
  • Apply early in your senior year
  • Funds graduate study at Oxford University
  • Winners chosen based off of academic achievements, leadership potential, and commitment to others and the common good
  • Must be 23 or younger to apply
  • Average GPA of winners is over 3.9

  • Apply in your sophomore or junior year
  • Open to students studying the environment, Native American health care, or Native American public policy
  • Funds up to $5,000 of eligible academic expenses and provides access to a strong alumni network
  • Looks for candidates that have a strong commitment to working in one of the three above areas, and have demonstrated peer leadership experience and public service experience
  • Applications must be submitted through the Office of National Fellowships here on Marshall’s campus, so see us if interested
