On Friday, Sept. 25, from 11 a.m. to noon, the Marshall University Early Education STEM Center in Gilbert will be hosting an event to mark the start of these new beginnings. Remarks will be made by several officials, including First Lady Joanne Jaeger Tomblin, former Sen. Lloyd Jackson, Sen. Bob Plymale, and former First Lady Gayle C. Manchin.
The opening of the center is in partnership with Mingo County Board of Education, Marshall University’s College of Education and Professional Development, Women’s Education Forum, Coalfield Community Action Partnership, Southern Community and Technical College, and the Larry Joe Harless Community Center.
The purpose of this center is to create a model site that provides pre-service teachers with high quality clinical placements and in-service teachers with professional development and ongoing support. This licensed center has the capacity to serve 15 children. The ultimate goal is to create the first nationally accredited early childhood site in the region.
