Presidential finalists named; on-campus interviews to be held Oct. 13-16

Following a national search, Marshall University’s Presidential Search Committee has identified three finalists.

The presidential finalists are, in alphabetical order:  Dr. Jerome A. Gilbert, provost and executive vice president of Mississippi State University; Dr. Christopher G. Maples, president of Oregon Institute of Technology; and Dr. Denis A. Wiesenburg, professor of marine science and former provost/vice president for academic affairs of the University of Southern Mississippi.

Each finalist will visit the South Charleston and Huntington campuses next week to meet with students, alumni, faculty, administrators and members of the community. The schedule of candidate visits is as follows:

  • Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 13-14: Denis A. Wiesenburg
  • Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 14-15: Jerome A. Gilbert
  • Thursday and Friday, Oct. 15-16: Christopher G. Maples

Resumes for each finalist and a schedule for the campus visits are available at www.marshall.edu/presidential-search. The open meetings will be broadcast online at www.marshall.edu/it/livestream for the convenience of those unable to attend in person.

Community receptions will be held on both campuses for each candidate and will be open to the public. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend these open receptions to meet the candidates. The schedule of community receptions is as follows:

After the campus visits are complete and feedback from the campus community has been reviewed, the search committee will present its recommendations to the Board of Governors for the final selection. The name of the selected candidate will then be forwarded to the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission for final approval.

The search committee has said it anticipates a new president could be on board in time for the start of the spring semester.
