Bells to be rung Thursday in honor of Kopp

Marshall University will honor its late president, Dr. Stephen J. Kopp, by ringing the bells on its Huntington campus Thursday morning.

The ringing will take place at 10 a.m. and the bells will be rung 10 times in honor of President Kopp’s nearly 10 years of service to Marshall.

Dr. Kopp died a year ago Thursday.

“We hope everyone will pause and take a moment to remember Dr. Kopp as we ring the bells Thursday morning,” said Interim President Gary G. White. “He meant so much to this university. He not only was a colleague, but he was a dear friend and we miss him greatly.”

The Thornburg Carillon (bells) is housed in the bell tower in the Morrow Library and can be heard throughout campus.
