Although they are both West Virginia natives, the Goodwins are now retired and living in Gahanna, Ohio. Dr. Rose Goodwin, a fellowship-trained surgical pathologist, graduated from the Marshall School of Medicine in 1982 as a member of the school’s second graduating class and went on to practice in the Columbus, Ohio, area. Barry Goodwin is a retired electrical engineer. They have two adult children, Jill and Megan. Jill A. Goodwin, M.D., also earned her medical degree from the Marshall School of Medicine in 2014 and is now completing an orthopaedic residency in Phoenix.
The scholarship, known as the Goodwin Family Scholarship, is part of the school’s Adopt a Medical Student scholarship program. It is designated for first-year medical students at Marshall and is renewable for three additional years pending normal academic progress.
“The Goodwins have always been loyal to the School of Medicine. Now, with Jill as a graduate, their loyalty has grown,” said Linda S. Holmes, director of development and alumni affairs for the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. “Their support over the years has been wonderful and this new scholarship takes it to another level.”
