Share
Marshall University will host its fourth free cyber safety summit Monday, May 16, according to John Sammons, assistant professor of integrated science and technology and director of the Digital Forensics and Information Assurance program at Marshall. Approximately 300 middle-school students will learn about good digital citizenship and how to stay safe online.

“Our kids spend a tremendous amount of time engaged with technology,” Sammons said. “While there is no doubt that technology has enormous benefits, it is also true that there are some risks as well. Our summit aims to make kids safe and intelligent users of technology.”

The summit will take place in the conference room of the Big Sandy Superstore Arena from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. During the sessions participants can learn how to prevent cyber bullying, keep themselves and their families safe online, handle the dangers of social media, keep their information and computers safe and identify scams. In addition, they can find out how and why criminals target them and more.

The event is sponsored by the Digital Forensics and Information Assurance program, the FBI, the Big Sandy Superstore Arena and the Appalachian Institute of Digital Evidence. For further information, e-mail sammons17@marshall.edu or call Sammons at 304-696-7241.
