Mitzi Meade, administrative secretary senior in the Department of Political Science, today was named Marshall University’s 2015 Employee of the Year at the 32nd annual Staff Recognition Luncheon.

The luncheon, which honored employees who are celebrating milestones in years served at MU, took place in the Don Morris Room, located in the Memorial Student Center on the Huntington campus.

Employed at Marshall since November 2009, Meade was nominated by Dr. George V. Davis, associate professor and chair of the Department of Political Science.

“Mitzi is a model employee,” he wrote, “…and as faculty, our lives are made much better by Mitzi’s commitment to her work. Her skill in assisting with, among many other things, course schedules, facilitating travel or arranging budgetary details make the processes relatively painless for faculty,” he said.  “Her reputation for hard work and dedication to her job is well known throughout the College of Liberal Arts.”

“Mitzi gives everything she has to the Marshall community, never failing to make a positive impact on those around her,” he continued, citing the work she has done with the College of Liberal Arts Student Conference. She did such an exemplary job on the preliminary work, Davis said, that she was asked to join the organizing committee.

“She is not paid for this activity,” Davis said.  “She does it because she knows how much students benefit from this experience and because she’s committed to Marshall’s educational mission.”

Marshall President Jerome Gilbert announced Meade’s selection as Employee of the Year, the service awardees, retirees and employee graduates.

Employee graduates for 2015-2016 are: Bonnie Bailey; Dr. Kathy Bialk; Dr. Sonja Cantrell; Joshua Chamberlain; Kimberly Conway; Dr. James Harris; Justin Hughes; Darlene Johnson; Dena Laton; Linda McGuffey; Patrick Moore; Barbara Norvell; Kelly Preston; Reagan Stafford; Hannah Stone, Spencer Winters and Cole Woodrum.
