Gravano, director of clinical education and an associate professor in the college’s School of Physical Therapy, said she will serve on the board for the next four years, kicking off her term at the annual members’ meeting in San Antonio this February.
“Being on the board of directors allows me to affect change in the profession, which will benefit current and future physical therapists and their aging patients,” Gravano said. “I am excited about the opportunity to serve my profession in a new way. I currently teach geriatric content in Marshall’s physical therapy program and advocate for our students to belong and serve in their professional organization (APTA).”
Dr. Scott Davis, chair of the School of Physical Therapy, said Gravano is a tremendous asset and a valued faculty member within the department.
“Dr. Gravano’s passion, dedication and service to the physical therapy profession is recognized by her colleagues and she serves as a wonderful role model for our students,” Davis said. “We are excited that Dr. Gravano has been elected as a Board member of the Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy and we are confident that she will represent the profession well at the national level.”
The Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy supports those therapists, assistants and students that work with an aging population in roles of advocacy, direct patient care, consultation, supervision and education. The Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy was formed in 1978 to address the needs of the physical therapy practitioner working with the aging client. The Section represents and serves over 5,700 members with a wide array of services and benefits.
