Marshall University today released the following statement related to this morning’s federal indictment of engineering professor Dr. Andrew P. Nichols.

University spokesperson Ginny Painter said:

“Marshall University officials became aware of the indictment today but have not yet seen the full document or had the opportunity to review the details of the allegations.

“We are reviewing Dr. Nichols’s university activities and duties, and will take action as appropriate to compensate for any complications the indictment may create in some of those roles.

“Individuals accused in an indictment are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The findings from our internal review of the evidence and the outcome of the criminal process will determine what, if any, employee disciplinary action will be pursued.

“The university will, of course, fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation if contacted by the authorities.”
