The presentation of the ceremonial check in the amount of $53,696 also honored the center’s founding director, Dr. Terry Fenger, who is planning to retire next month.
“During his tenure, Dr. Fenger, his faculty, staff and students have achieved national prominence in Forensic Science education and the provision of actual forensic science services throughout West Virginia and the United States,” said Michael J. Farrell, also a partner at Farrell, White & Legg and a former interim president of Marshall. “We salute Dr. Fenger for his world-class efforts and Tammy White, her family and friends, who generously supported this scholarship fund.”
“My parents had the honor of becoming acquainted with Dr. Terry Fenger and Dr. Pamela Staton as they, and tireless staff with the Marshall University Forensic Science Center, led this program to national prominence as the leading digital and DNA forensic advanced program in the country,” White said. “Our Marshall University and our State of West Virginia will remain a leader in this and other endeavors provided that we educate our future generations.”
“All of us in the forensic science program are grateful for the long-term support of the Nicely Scholarship provided by Ms. Tammy White, Esq.,” Fenger said. “The fact that financial aid is available through her efforts for qualified students from West Virginia and the metro area allows students to enter the exiting world of forensic science is support of our criminal justice system. Ms. White is committed to the sustainability and expansion of the program and we applaud her efforts.”
White said future donations will continue to support the Marshall Forensic Science program and other aspects of Marshall University.
