Marshall University’s Dr. David Trowbridge, an associate professor of history and creator of the Clio history app, has been appointed to the West Virginia Archives and History Commission to serve through June 30, 2020.

A Huntington resident, Trowbridge joined Marshall in 2008 after earning his Ph.D. from the University of Kansas.  Along with teaching, he serves as director of African and African American studies in Marshall’s history department, housed in the College of Liberal Arts, and he created Clio, an app that provides GPS-guided information on historical and cultural landmarks in both small towns and large cities across the United States. Information about Clio also can be found online at www.theclio.com.

The West Virginia Archives and History Commission helps the state’s effort to collect and preserve West Virginia historical records, including significant letters, documents, reports, photographs and more. It helps organize and make available historical information to disseminate and celebrate the state’s rich history.
